How to Balance Work
Over time, work becomes an integral part of our lives, and it almost becomes a natural progression of life to - immerse ourselves into it. However, we all know that there are many other aspects of life outside of work that we need to take care to maintain a work-life balance.
Work life balance impacts our wellbeing, safety, health, and family life. Tension at work can impact our personal lives as it becomes increasingly difficult to separate work from home life leading to fatigue and ultimately burnout. A more balanced approach allows for the increase in quality time spent at home but also improves our productivity at work. Recent research show that work-related stress can have detrimental effects on our health.
Solution:
Utilizing a mindful approach allows us pause and notice what is happening in our bodies. 80% of emotional signals are sent from the body to the mind. When we pause, breathe and notice what is happening we move from the daily rush of going from one thing to the next and we simply notice what is happening – moving from “human doing” to more of a human being. We are then able to differentiate between taking things professionally not personally both at home and at work and in doing so we transition our thoughts from being more self critical to being more self compassionate and forgiving of ourselves and others. Mindful based tools will assist you in being more productive by avoiding the tricks our minds play on us when we encounter stress in our lives.
