What is Meditation
Meditation opens our awareness what is going on in the present moment and while meditation provides guidance on posture, establishing an anchor for attention, and learning to concentrate and collect the mind – “coming back.” The real learning is the idea that every time we wander from the present moment, we simply observe this and then return our attention to the present moment – this is mindfulness and serves to strengthen our neuropathways to be in the present not in the past or the future thought. Meditation invites us to an awareness of “being here,” qualities of allowing non-judgmental attitude.
Solution:
As we deepen our meditation practice, we begin to change the lens through which we see and interpret the actions of others. We become more aware of who we are and our own basic goodness that is at our very essence. What also starts to evolve in us is that we see this same goodness in all other beings. In doing so we begin a new relationship with our thoughts, one in which we become observers of our thoughts rather then being caught up in the story that we create around our hearts as we defend ourselves from perceived fear of others. The compassion that arises from mindful awareness can heal our inner wounds, interpersonal conflict, and the suffering in our world.
