How to Beat Addiction
An addiction is a prolonged disruption of the brain system where the reward, motivation, and memory centers have essentially been hijacked by one’s desire to use a substance or partake in an activity. It’s about your mind and in turn body craving a thing because of an expected reward; if un-checked these cravings cause obsessives or compulsive pursuit and have one trapped in an endless loop of seeking. People often think addiction only pertains to a harmful dug or illicit substance, when in reality the effects of addiction can have an impact far beyond that including: devices, food or thought addiction. Addiction can be one of the most debilitating experiences a person can go through as it’s companied by feelings by powerlessness, however, overcoming addiction is one of the most triumphant things someone can do for themselves.
Solution:
Mindfulness is one of the most powerful tools to treat and overcome addiction, as induces a state of mental awareness that allows the mind to consider our choices more effectively and efficiently. The brain is the only organ that’s designed to be molded by experiences, and like a muscle it gets stronger with practice and repetition. When in the past we repeatedly engaged in thoughts and activities that strengthen the hold of addiction, we unknowingly molded our brain in ways that ultimately work against us and prevent us from being “in the moment” or mindful. Mindfulness empowers us to consciously redesign our brain in ways that provide for increased control, awareness and satisfaction.
